The Mediendom uses the Digistar 5 theater system by Evans & Sutherland, which is the standard for the 21st century by letting audiences experience cutting-edge full-dome and large-screen digital entertainment and 3D computer-generated worlds.

Mediendom

For a 3D audio experience the Mediendom uses the SpatialSound Wave technology in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology IDMT in Ilmenau, Germany. The IDMT is doing applied research in the field of audiovisual media. The Institute is known as a competent partner of industry when it comes to developing groundbreaking technologies for the digital media domain. SpatialSound Wave is bases on the long-time experience of Fraunhofer IDMT with spatial audio reproduction technologies like Wave File Synthesis. SpatialSound Wave is based on the long-time experience of Fraunhofer IDMT with spatial audio reproduction technologies like Wave Field Synthesis. With SpatialSound Wave, the experts have created a very compact system for spatial sound reproduction, which works without a closed set-up of loudspeakers and although creates an impressive, acoustically realistic immersion. At the campus the Mediendom works closely with the department of Media and especially the Institute for Immersive Media. Immersive media are a key aspect of the department. Every two years the department organises the conference “iii (immersion, illusion, involvement)” and a festival for immersive media. It is also the publisher of the peer reviewed “Annual Book of Immersive Media”. Former students are now working in planetariums throughout Germany or as fulldome-producers.

For public audiences the Mediendom gives roundabout 1.300 performances per annum in an interdisciplinary approach. Pathbreaking productions like “Kaluoka’hina” or “Life of Trees” are important parts of season schedule from the very first. Other productions were made in Kiel and received international appreciation.

Brno Observatory and Planetarium

A great planetarium on a beautiful location

To fly into space, look into the microworld, discover the secret of life, immerse yourself into the realm of fantasy, partially reveal the future and live a science-fiction story. All of that, actually much more, can be found at the Brno Observatory and Planetarium.

The Brno Observatory and Planetarium is a centre for popularization of various sciences, especially in the field of inanimate nature. First of all, it is of course astronomy, but Brno Planetarium does not avoid geology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, geography and a lot of other fields. All of that in a form which is understandable, entertaining and interactive. Brno Planetarium is not a scientific workplace, but you can encounter science at every step. And the Brno Observatory and Planetarium is also engaged in promotion of Brno universities and big scientific projects carried out in the area of Brno.

Up-to-date premises of the Brno Observatory and Planetarium are an ideal place for medium size events of congress and incentive tourism, specialized events for sponsors and advertising or barter partners, cultural activities (theatre and musical performances) as well as a little more intimate meetings.

The Digitatium hall as the planetarium is called will immerse the audience with its scene and sound. The series of special projectors combined with tens of computers can conjure a surprisingly true model of the space on the projection screen with a diameter of 17 meters. The repertoire of the Digitarium does not include only astronomical shows, the audience is also taken to the places that are hard to get to – under water, inside a human body, to the near future, to the microworld and macrocosm…

A great planetarium on a beautiful location.

Planetarium Hamburg opened in 1930. It is situated in a historic water tower, which was built 1912-1917 and located right in the middle of Hamburg’s city park (Stadtpark) – an architectural landmark of the city.

At the center of its sky theater sits the Zeiss planetarium projector “Universarium Mk.9”, which projects a magnificent starry sky on a dome spanning 21 meters – independent of daytime or weather. With as many as 300.000 visitors, Planetarium Hamburg may be even the most successful stand-alone-planetarium worldwide. Join us and enjoy a trip through space and time – relax in our theater on comfortable reclining-seats.  Afterwards don´t miss the breathtaking panoramic view of the city of Hamburg from our observation deck on top of the water tower (admission free).
